Sebaliknya, ATC pada umumnya hanya memiliki tiga frekuensi back-up. Hal ini menyebabkan pilot kerap mendapati “blank spot”.
Gangguan sinyal telepon seluler dinilai Jeffrey tak seberapa dibandingkan kebocoran frekuensi. Menurutnya, sinyal telepon seluler memang kadang mengganggu sistem kemudi.

Pirates hijack tanker off Oman carrying oil for Indonesia
Suspected pirates have hijacked an oil-tanker carrying 945,000 barrels (135,000 metric tonnes) of crude oil destined for Indonesia in the Arabian Sea off Oman, news agencies and Indonesian officials said on Friday.
The vessel, M/T SMYRNI, a Liberian flagged tanker, is owned by a Greek company. It lost contact with Dynacom Tankers Management, which manages the vessel, on Thursday at 6:15 p.m. Jakarta time. There has so far been no demand for ransom issued.
“The Liberian-flagged Tanker, the M/T SMYRNI, is carrying a cargo of 135000 MT of crude oil,” Reuters reported from Nairobi, quoting the manager of Dynacom.
At the time of the attack, the tanker, which began its journey in Turkey, was heading toward Somali waters, a notoriously vulnerable area for pirate attacks. It was the first attack in more than a year in the Horn of Africa.
Meanwhile, Indonesian officials confirmed on Friday that the crude oil on the M/T SMYRNI oil tanker had been ordered by Indonesia from Azerbaijan, a major oil producer in the South Caucasus. The oil’s market price is more than US$130 million.
State-owned oil and gas company Pertamina said it had not suffered any financial loss from the attack on M/T SMYRNI, which was destined for its oil refinery in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan.
Pertamina’s senior vice president (shipping) Suhartoko confirmed that the tanker did not belong to Pertamina.
“Pertamina didn’t suffer any losses but we will have to purchase the crude oil again,” Suhartoko told Antara news agency.
Based on the oil purchase contract, Suhartoko said Pertamina would only have paid after the delivery.
“The payment [for the oil] was due to be made only after the tanker reached Balikpapan. Therefore, we didn’t suffer any losses,” he said.
Azerbaijan has become a major crude supplier to Indonesia in recent years. Indonesia bought $1.76 billion of crude oil from Azerbaijan in 2011, a huge jump from $894.73 million in 2010. Oil imports from Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, were just $98.47 million in 2007. Pertamina’s subsidiary Petral buys crude oil from Azerbaijan’s state oil and gas company Socar. Both Petral and Socar have offices in Singapore.
“Azerbaijan is one of the biggest suppliers of crude oil to Indonesia after Saudi Arabia,” Azerbaijan Ambassador to Indonesia Tamerlan Karayev told The Jakarta Post recently.
In 2011, according to the Central Statistics Agency, Azerbaijan ranked second-biggest crude oil supplier
to Indonesia after Saudi Arabia, which sold $4.47 billion worth of oil to Jakarta.
Meanwhile, State-owned Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan was surprised after hearing the news from reporters on Friday. “I will immediately study the situation. I would like to know what has happened,” Dahlan told detik.com.
The nationalities of the tanker’s crew as well as its assailants remain unclear. According to the International Maritime Organization, Somali pirates are currently holding 17 ships and close to 300 crew members.

Sheila Marcia Opens Her Mouth about The Baby
After giving birth to her first baby, named Leiticia Charlotte Agraciana Joseph, at Harapan Bunda Hospital, East Jakarta, Sheila Marcia finally expressed how she felt.
"The presence of a baby is extraordinary. I can't express it in words, but for sure she will bring a change in my life and I believe she will be a blessing and will give me strength in my life."
Sheila feels that her normal delivery has made her a complete woman. "I can deliver normally, I'm proud to be a complete woman who is able to feel the child birth process. I could really feel the struggle of being a mother, it was heavy. But it was all worth it when I saw my baby."
What did she feel when she first saw her baby? "I was touched. I didn't know what to do. It was amazing to see such an adorable baby. I have such such a cute baby," she said happily, without brushing on the topic of the child's biological father.
Too bad Sheila, who still needed intensive care, was only available to make a statement without a Q & A session for the press
Apple Admits Child Labour Used to Build iPods and iPhones

Technology giant Apple has admitted that child labour has been employed at some of the factories that build its iPods, computers and mobile phones. An audit found that at least eleven 15-year-old children were found to be working in three factories that supply Apple in the last year.
It said that child workers were now no longer being used at the sites, or were no longer underage. The exact location of the factories has not been identified. Apple has factories which supply parts in Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, the U.S., the Czech Republic, Malaysia and the Philippines, but most of its products are assembled in China.
The audit also found one facility had attempted to conceal evidence of employing underage labour, while two others had falsified records relating to the number of working hours and days of rest employees were receiving. Apple has been repeatedly criticised for using factories which abuse workers and impose harsh conditions on workers.
Last week, 62 workers at a factory which makes parts for Apple and Nokia were hospitalised after being poisoned by n-hexane, a toxic chemical commonly used in technology which can cause muscular degeneration and blurred eyesight. The company has not commented on the problems at the plant, which is in Suzhou, China.
A spokesman for Wintek, which runs the factory, said that almost all of affected staff were back at work. The audit report revealed that at least 55 of factories which produced Apple goods were ignoring rules that staff must not work more than 60 hours a week.
One of the plants had falsified records for two years in a row in order to conceal that it was using child labour and overworking staff.
It said: 'When Apple investigated further, we uncovered additional records and conducted worker interviews that revealed excessive working hours and seven days of continuous work.
'Based on the repeat core violation and inadequate actions, Apple is terminating all business with this facility.'
The report also found 35 per cent of staff were paying incorrect wages, with 24 factories in China paying less than the national minimum wage of £76 a month. Three facilities were stopped from disposing of hazardous waste after they were found to have employed non-certified disposal companies.
And 20 facilities were found to be conducting pregnancy tests on workers before employing them. Apple has not stopped using those factories to make components. Last year, the company found a total of 25 child workers had been employed to make iPods and iPhones
The World's Most Expensive Inflight Meal
Crew on board the flight confirmed he had won the prize but told the passenger he would have to collect the jackpot directly from the company that runs the competition as it was such a large sum.
Ryanair said the man then became frustrated and started to eat his winning ticket, ruling out any chance he had of claiming the prize money which will now be donated to charity.
Stephen McNamara, a spokesman for the airline, said: "Passengers have always been delighted to claim their large cash prizes after returning home.
"Unfortunately our latest winner felt that we should have his 10,000 euros prize kicking around on the aircraft."
The airline is now asking passengers to vote online to decide where the money should go, after the win on Thursday. Voting will take place until March 5 at www.ryanair.com.
Mother Uses Twitter and YouTube to Chronicle Her Abortion

A woman who described her abortion in graphic detail on Twitter and YouTube has provoked a furious backlash. Angie Jackson, 27, has received death threats and been condemned by anti-abortion activists for her account of taking a pill to induce a termination.
Messages on her blog have labelled her a 'w****' and a 'baby killer'. Others have sent Bible verses and offers to adopt her four-year-old son, who has special needs. After a life-threatening first pregnancy, Miss Jackson, from Tampa, Florida, was advised by doctors not to have any more children.
She and her boyfriend found out she was pregnant again on February 13, just over three weeks after she conceived. Doctors said she could take the RU-486 drug, better known as the abortion pill, rather than have a surgical termination because the pregnancy had been detected so early.
Going under the name 'antitheistangie' on Twitter, Miss Jackson then went public with the details. In one post on February 21 she wrote: 'Cramps are getting a bit more persistent.' Other, more graphic posts followed.
In the YouTube video, she gives a similarly vivid account of her termination. She said she did so because she wanted to 'demystify' abortion for other women.
'I had made a decision when my son was born to try to not get pregnant again, and if that failed I'd planned that I would get an abortion if I needed one,' Miss Jackson added.
'My goal is to stay alive, and the best chance of that is to have an abortion. It is not shameful. It is not killing a child.'
Since Miss Jackson posted the messages the number of people following her progress on Twitter has more than doubled from 800.
She said: 'Emotionally, for me, doing this in the open and having the support of my friends has made this immeasurably easier.
'This has made me feel like it is an unfortunate experience but not something by which I have to define myself or my life by.
'I don't feel like I'm doing anything different from what I do every day.
'But now I have people calling me a killer, it's surreal.'
She added: 'I've just been astonished by the level of hatred and death threats and threats of violence against my son. It's been a very ugly side of people to see.
'I'm not trying to ignite a culture war, I'm just offering one person's personal experience and true story.'
The Family Research Council, which promotes 'faith, family and freedom', published a blog calling Jackson's decision a 'tragedy'.
Jeanne Monahan, the director for the Centre for Human Dignity at FRC, said she 'feels sorry' for Miss Jackson.
'I certainly don't agree with her decision to have a medical abortion,' she said.
'In my heart I believe it's not good for her or her baby.'
Abortion is one of the most controversial issues in the U.S., with attacks on clinics providing late-term terminations common.
Last year a mother of two, Irene Vilar, admitted in a book to being an 'abortion addict', having had 15 terminations. She too faced death threats after her account was published
PKS Uninvited to The Coalition Meeting
JAKARTA, - The Democratic Party reportedly had a meeting with its coalition partners at the residence of Syarif Hassan, one of the party's high officials, Sunday evening. Democratic Party fraction chief Anas Urbaningrum also stated that there has been an agreement between the coalition partners regarding the Century Bank case. However, the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), according to its secretary general, Anis Matta, didn't know about the meeting.
"I don't know about the discussion last night. I didn't attend it," stated Anis, Monday, at the House of Representatives, Jakarta.
Anis also stated that he couldn't say whether any PKS high official attended the meeting. "I was out of town."
Deputy speaker of the House ensures that the meetings by the coalition leader won't deter his party's opinion regarding the final conclusion of the inquiry committee on Century Bank. "Golkar stated that it won't change. PKS won't change either."
When questioned whether PKS's absence was because it had been removed from the coalition, Anis was reluctant to respond. He opined that PKS is only bound to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. "The communication we consider official is with Mr. SBY. Aside from that, it's unofficial. And so far the communication with Mr. SBY is going well

Laptop launched to aid computer novices

People confused and frustrated by computers can now turn to a laptop called Alex built just for them.
Based on Linux, the laptop comes with simplified e-mail, web browsing, image editing and office software.
Those who sign up for Alex pay £39.95 a month for telephone support, software updates and broadband access.
Its creators hope the laptop and its simple suite of software proves to be a popular alternative to the Windows and Mac operating systems.
"Alex is not designed as a super-computer," said Barney Morrison-Lyons, head of technology at The Broadband Computer Company which is behind Alex. "We're not buying into the current computer market
The idea behind Alex was to make using a computer a "simple and enjoyable" experience, said Andy Hudson, one of the founders of the company.
Subscribers to Alex receive a USB stick which contains user-encrypted data and enables them to log on to their desktop from any Alex computer.
For their monthly fee, customers also get anti-virus software and 10GB of storage space on the Broadband Computer Company's servers.
Broadband is supplied by Southampton-based ISP Murphx.
More than £2.5m has been invested in developing the product, the company claims.
"We're the little guy, we know that," said co-founder Harry Drnec, who is credited with turning the energy drink company Red Bull into a profitable business in the UK.
Back to basics
As well as communication tools such as e-mail, Alex comes loaded with a suite of open office software including applications compatible with Microsoft's Excel and PowerPoint file formats.
The desktop is more comprehensive than that of Simplicity, a computer aimed at older people launched by TV presenter Valerie Singleton in 2009.
Mr Hudson said the company also intends to launch an application store for Alex for customers who want to add more features and functions to their computer.
"People who love Linux will be keen to develop for this," he said.
The BBC's technology correspondent Rory Cellan-Jones said that Alex was an ambitious concept.
"Alex is trying to do three things: win new people over to the internet, introduce a new - and more expensive - way of using computers, and take on the might of Microsoft," he said.
"If the company succeeds it will be a huge boost for the cause of Linux computing."
VISUAL IMPACT TOYOTA PRIUS

Many Prius fans might attribute its weird wedge shape to the aerodynamic benefits it provides. Toyota engineers also agree with this fact, since the third generation of the Prius is also one of the most aerodynamically efficient production cars. With a drag coefficient of 0.25, that "flat pancake" shape actually has a purpose. So, you can not call it simply ugly, it's more like "form follows function".
Of course, other manufacturers are achieving similar drag coefficient results without appealing to such extreme styling. On the other hand, Toyota knows that the Prius's shape has transformed into a real attention-grabber for the environmentally-conscious driving one, so it's also good PR, not just Cd, behind the turtle look.
The front is actually pretty good-looking, even though it retains quite a lot of design cues from other modern bland Toyotas. Still, it's a mixture between your average boring Toyota look and a more youthful and especially sportier appearance. This was further amplified by the seventeen-inch alloy wheels, which look very "autobahn-ready". The main design feature separating it from its siblings is the blue hue inside the badge, which is Toyota's geeky way of differentiating its hybrids from the regular models in the lineup.
Getting to the side of the Prius is where things get messy. The car's profile is pretty much its main way of announcing with trumpets, confetti and firecrackers the fact that it's a hybrid. Which is both a good and a bad thing. Good for all the environmentalists who cannot tell a car from a vacuum cleaner and bad for all the real car guys out there. On a personal note, we think the side is an absolute hideous representation of a correct Kamback design.
The rear is pretty non-homogeneous also, with the twin rear windshield and the tall Lexus IS/Toyota Altezza taillights. The rear bumper, on the other hand, looks more like an aftermarket "tuner" option that a productions-specced piece. All in all, the opinions about the way the Prius looks are pretty divided and that is why we can give it neither a top mark, nor a very low one.
Microsoft offers web browser choice to IE users

It follows a legal agreement between Microsoft and Europe's Competition Commission in December 2009.
Microsoft committed to letting Windows PC users across Europe install the web browser of their choice, rather than having Microsoft IE as a default.
Figures suggest that over half the world's internet users have IE.
Testing for the update is already underway in the UK, Belgium and France.
The software update choice will arrive automatically for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 customers,
The blog also contains screen grabs of the message as it will appear.
"Users who get the choice screen will be free to choose any browser or stick with the browser they have, as they prefer," wrote Mr Heiner.
Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Opera are the alternative browsers that people will be offered.
"Millions of people who have never really thought about which browser to use will now be forced to make a choice," said BBC technology correspondent Rory Cellan-Jones on his blog.
"That presents Microsoft's rivals with a unique marketing opportunity."
Mozilla Foundation chair Mitchell Baker described the news as "an important milestone towards helping people take control of their online lives."

Software maker sues China on piracy accusation
Cybersitter LLC, whose software is designed to help parents filter content seen by children, seeks $2.2 billion in damages in the federal lawsuit filed Tuesday in Los Angeles.
"
The company alleges that the Chinese copied its codes and incorporated them into software used to block Chinese citizens' access to sites deemed politically undesirable by the government. Seven computer manufacturers, including Sony, Lenovo, and Toshiba, also were sued for distributing the Chinese program with PCs sold in the country.
"I don't think I have ever seen such clear-cut stealing," said attorney Gregory Fayer, who represents Santa Barbara-based Cybersitter.
He said the alleged piracy was discoered by a university researcher who posted a report on Internet filtering programs online.
Fayer said Chinese software makers appeared to have downloaded the program from the Cybersitter server and copied more than 3,000 lines of code, then incorporated it into their program, Green Dam Youth Escort.
'They did a sloppy job of copying," said Fayer, noting that they included directions on how to get to the Cybersitter site.
Last year, the Chinese government issued an order requiring computer manufacturers to pre-install or supply "Green Dam Youth Escort" software with PCs made for sale in China.
Cina later backed down after a major outcry from Chinese citizens and computer companies. Although Chinese authorities had said the "Green Dam" system is needed to block access to violent and obscene material, analysts who reviewed the program say it also filters out material the government considers politically objectionable.
The lawsuit says that while the mandate was reversed, the computer makers continued to distribute Green Dam with its computers in China even after learning the software was pirated.
Those named in the lawsuit were Sony, Lenovo, Toshiba, Acer, AsusteK, BenQ and Haier.
The complaint alleges misappropriation of trade secrets, unfair competition, copyright infringement and conspiracy. It also claims the Chinese software makers broke U.S. criminal laws governing economic espionage.
A Lenovo spokeswoman said by e-mail that the company was unable to comment on pending litigation. A call to Acer representatives was not immediately returned.
A representative for Sony declined comment on the lawsuit. A Toshiba representative was unreachable after hours. Companies in Asia were unreachable due to time difference.
Fayer said that none of the defendants had been served with the lawsuit yet.
He said Cybersitter, a family-owned company, is seeking damages for royalties due on its product, which sells for $39.95 a copy. He said the case could be "a watershed for the protection of American intellectual property internationally."
"We don't make many widgets anymore," he said. "What we have to offer the world is our ingenuity and creativity, our ideas and what lawyers call intellectual property. From small companies like Cybersitter to Microsoft to motion pictures and the music industry, these are the products we have to offer the world. It is important that they be protected.
uBoom: Ample boom but little subtlety

uBoom www.asus.com
I don’t know about you, but I am increasingly resorting to the web to find music to play while I work.
I will visit YouTube and play songs like Only Memories Are Our Friends sung by Heintje, or “When We Are Young” by Solomon King. These are not exoctly the songs people from my generation listen too, I know. I have also found a website solely dedicated to Elvis Presley’s impressive collection of songs.
Listening to the music on my desktop PC at home is not a problem, as I have hooked it up to a great sounding Aiwa compo. However, when I travel and want to listen to the same music on my notebook computer, the experience becomes a nuisance.
Some multimedia notebooks produce acceptable sound, but are usually bulky and not really suitable for travel. Most of the time, the sound quality of notebooks and netbooks is similar to that of toy cell phones. Yes, I could use a pair of high-end headphones, but after a while my ears will feel hot.
When talking about portable speakers, the challenge is to find the balance between size and richness of sound. Some computer speakers made by Logitech, Altec Lansing and many others offer good sound reproduction, but they are simply not for the road. Even wallet drainers such as MusicMonitor from Bose and BeoLab 4 from B&O do not completely satisfy demanding audiophile tastes.
Recently, ASUS Indonesia let me play around with their new, one-piece 2.1 speaker called uBoom.
The look is pretty futuristic with the brushed aluminum body and black plastic grill on top. The drivers are on the opposite sides and are enclosed in black plastic covers.
The 2.1 model and its bigger brother, uBoom Q, include a subwoofer in addition to the pair of drivers.
More interestingly, as shown in these speakers and many others, the current trend is to connect the speakers to the notebook or desktop PC using a USB 2.0 cable, not an analog one.
If we have a Windows Vista or Windows 7 machine, no drivers are needed either. Older operating systems may require special software drivers to send the audio signal via the USB connection.
Now, let us have a closer look at the uBoom. I was told the unit I played around with was the first sample to arrive in Indonesia. Consequently, it is reasonable to expect many of the shortcomings that I have come across may be rectified in future shipped products.
The uBoom is pretty heavy to throw into an overnight bag, actually. I would suggest ASUS add a shoulder strap to make toting it around more comfortable.
At the back we find all the connection ports. They include the USB port, an RCA jack for analog input, another RCA jack for a microphone, a power switch and a power port.
In front, there is a recess on the tubular resonant chamber to place the rear of our notebook. The good thing is it keep the notebook from warming up too much and give us a better typing angle.
Too bad the recess is not deep enough to support a notebook with the screen fully opened.
During my test, I connected the supplied USB cable to my Windows Vista notebook, plugged the AC adaptor, inserted The Beatles’ Rubber Soul and pumped the volume up. This speaker can produce quite powerful sound.
It is not heart thumping, but it is enough to fill a small hall. Still, I think the balance between the low, mid and high ranges should be fine-tuned further in order to produce richer sound.
I played Chopin’s Piano Sonata No. 2 from my Time Life Music collection, and the sound was rather flat.
As far as design goes, I do have a list of other wishes. Having all the connections at the back is great, as it gives us a clean front side. Unfortunately, the power switch is just a small mechanical slide switch.
As it is a great looking speaker, I think ASUS should have used a digital switch instead. In addition, it should be placed in front.
Inside the chamber is a blue light that shines when the unit is powered up. There is no other indicator to tells us it is on. More annoying is definitely the absence of volume control.
We can adjust the volume using Windows mixer, which requires us to click on the small audio icon on the system tray.
It can be quite tricky, especially if you want to have just the right volume. An alternative is to use the notebook Fn andFx key combinations.
My preference would be to use a multimedia keyboard that comes with a master volume control. The best solution would be for ASUS to add a remote control as an accessory. A lot of good computer speakers now come with a remote control.
This speaker is not truly ready to compete with others from Logitech and Altec Lansing, but it certainly has an attractive look and a lot of sonic power. If you just want to listen to YouTube music in your hotel room, or give a presentation in a small hall, this may be a good choice. But, if you want to enjoy the velvety voice of Jim Reeves, you should understand much larger cabinets and drivers are needed.
